Health Technology Innovations in Community Services: A Bibliometric Analysis of Health Applications, Agribusiness, Telemedicine, and Digital Health Tools

Abstract

Background: Rapid advances in digital health technologies have transformed healthcare delivery by improving accessibility, efficiency, and quality of care. While research has largely focused on clinical information systems, disease management, and healthcare infrastructure, limited attention has been given to community empowerment, digital health literacy, behavioral acceptance, and community-based implementation. Mapping the intellectual landscape of health technology innovation is therefore essential to identify research trends and gaps.
Aim: This study maps the global scientific landscape of health technology innovation in community services, identifies dominant and emerging research themes, and provides evidence to support community-based digital health models, particularly in rural and agribusiness settings.
Methods: A bibliometric approach was employed using metadata from internationally indexed publications. Data were analyzed with the Bibliometrix package in RStudio through descriptive bibliometric analysis, co-occurrence network analysis, science mapping, thematic evolution, and conceptual structure mapping to examine publication trends, collaboration patterns, research clusters, and emerging topics.
Results: Health technology research is predominantly centered on telemedicine, digital health systems, electronic health records, disease management, healthcare information technology, and clinical decision-support systems. Telemedicine has emerged as a multidisciplinary research hub linking digital innovation, healthcare management, patient outcomes, service quality, and policy development. However, notable gaps remain in community participation, digital health literacy, behavioral acceptance, community health worker involvement, and the application of behavioral theories, including the Technology Acceptance Model, in community-level implementation.
Conclusion: Integrating technological innovation with community empowerment can strengthen digital health adoption, improve equitable healthcare access, and support sustainable digital health ecosystems, particularly in rural and agribusiness communities.
