Animated Videos and Bundled Care Concepts in Health Education: A Scoping Review of Integration, Outcomes, and Implementation Gaps
Main Article Content
Abstract
Background: Conventional health education media such as leaflets and oral lectures are often limited in reaching patients with low health literacy, while animated videos and bundled care have each been shown to improve understanding and care outcomes. However, evidence regarding their integration remains scattered and has not been systematically mapped.
Aims: To map the evidence regarding the integration forms, measured outcomes, intervention designs, effectiveness, and implementation barriers of animated videos combined with bundled care in health education.
Methods: This scoping review was conducted following Arksey and O'Malley's framework and was reported according to PRISMA ScR guidelines.
Results: From 108 initial records, 99 records were screened after removing duplicates and ineligible records. Six studies met inclusion criteria (two RCTs, two quasi-experimental studies, one case-control study, and one systematic review). Animated videos consistently improved short-term knowledge, but only one study truly integrated videos into multicomponent bundled care with objective clinical outcomes. Effects on attitudes, satisfaction, and behaviors varied far more than effects on knowledge.
Conclusion: The combination of animated videos and bundled care is promising for health education, but the term "bundled care" is still used loosely, measurement instruments are generally unvalidated across populations, and evidence on behavioral change and long term clinical outcomes remains very limited. Standardization of bundle components and research designs capable of isolating video contributions from other bundle components are needed.
